Why your financial support matters to our community
The sisters of the yam Writing Society exist to hold space—intentionally, consistently, and with care—for Black women to write, reflect, and return to themselves. This work is slow, relational, and deeply necessary. It requires resources that honor process over performance and people over production.
Your support helps us sustain a creative ecosystem where safety is not assumed but actively practiced. Contributions allow us to offer facilitated writing spaces, compensate artists and facilitators with dignity, maintain privacy-centered programming, and keep our offerings accessible to those who need them most.
When you support the society you are not simply funding events—you are nurturing a culture of honesty, accountability, and collective care. You are helping us preserve spaces where Black women can grow without judgment, speak without pressure, and create without extraction.
Sponsorships and contributions ensure that this work remains rooted in integrity rather than urgency, and in community rather than performance. Together, we can continue tending a space where stories are held with reverence, voices are honored, and writers are supported not just in what they produce, but in who they are becoming.
