Seeking After Truth
Literary Salon
Seeking After Truth is a series of Literary Salons hosted by the sisters of the yam Writing Society. Rooted in Black feminist thought and inspired by the work of Audre Lorde, these gatherings create space for thoughtful conversation, shared reading, and collective reflection around how we understand ourselves, one another, and the worlds we move through.
Each salon is shaped by the tradition of literary salons, intimate gatherings where people come together to share writing, exchange ideas, and make meaning through conversation. Rather than focusing on a single text, the salons explore broad themes, inviting multiple voices, readings, and works into the room.
Participants are encouraged to ask hard questions, resist being misnamed, hold complexity, and engage difference without erasing one another. Truth is understood as something that grows through attention, conversation, and shared presence.
Every session is intentionally held as a protected space. Reflections and ideas may travel forward without naming or exposing personal stories, allowing for honest engagement without spectacle or pressure to perform. Seeking After Truth offers a place to listen deeply, think together, and sit with what emerges.
